Whether we're talking fanfic or the show, sometimes this man seems to be the only sane one around... He's almost always there when a team leaves or returnes through the 'Gate. He cares deeply for the men and women (and aliens) under his command, and he agrees with the philosofy that 'No one get's left behind'.

Hammond is also quite often protraied as the grandfather of the SGC -- whenever one refers to the place as one big family. He cares for them all, but even he won't take unlimited amounts of crap from Jack. Over the years, however, he's learned to take things as they come, especially things concercing SG-1.
